Ottawa Outdoor Club

Skiing

Coordinator: Robert Bultitude, ski(at)ottawaoutdoorclub.ca

With snow on the ground, we generally meet on Saturday mornings for skiing.  With the region's superb set of cross-country ski trails, we focus on cross-country.  Cross-country ski destinations are usually in Gatineau Park, the NCC Greenbelt, and other trails in the Ottawa area, such as the Sir John A. Macdonald (SJAM) trail along the Ottawa River.

Several out-of-town weekend trips are usually scheduled that include one or more of cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, and/or snowshoeing.

Non-members are welcome on our trips; we ask for a small participation fee.

Information about the state of the cross-country ski trails in Gatineau Park is available at the National Capital Commission web site.

For all events, please check the event listings for details, as the meeting day, time, and location can vary. Please register by the departure time shown. Destinations will vary.

A level of difficulty is provided for each cross-country skiing trip:

  • L1: Groomed/tracked trails, easy hills, distances up to 15 km
  • L2: Groomed/tracked trails, more difficult hills, distances up to 25 km
  • L3: Possible back country, challenging hills, distances up to 30 km
  • L4: Exceeds L3

Note about the level definitions:

  • "+" following the level number: a "+" sign after the number indicates that the outing  is essentially at the specified level but that it is slightly over the maximum distance defined for the level.  For example, a level 1+ cross-country outing is essentially a level 1 cross-country ski outing that is just over 15 km.
