25 years ago, in the spring of 1994, as the Ottawa Hostel and its "recreation program" faced financial difficulty, eight Hostel members sat around the table and discussed the loss of the program that the Ottawa Hostel could no longer support.  In short order, the idea of a "Club" came up.  The name "Ottawa Hostel Outdoor Club" (OHOC) was chosen.  To be autonomous, $40 memberships were sold.  Some years later, "Hostel" was dropped from the name of the Club.

Over these years, we've had between 4000 and 5000 outings.  We've had long-distance outings, short outings, strenuous outings, casual outings, weekend outings, week-long outings, evening outings, day outings, Christmas parties, New Year's Eve parties, and more.  We've put on training courses.  We've gone hiking, bicycling, canoeing, skating, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, snowshoeing, and walking.  All of these have been because of the people in the Club.

And, more than anything else, we've enjoyed each others' company with the outdoors as our theme!

We look forward to sharing this momentous event with current and past OOC / OHOC members and with our friends and yours (member or non-member).  Please spread the word, especially so that we can reach out to long-past members whose current contact information we may no longer have.
